Chicago is a pretty awesome city - loved, loved, loved the buildings! I wish we had brick buildings, water towers, and the history! I still love California though :) I didn’t get too much of a chance to explore the whole city - I really only explored about a 4-6 mile radius from the hotel. Most of my days were taken up by the workshop, and just hanging with other photographers and what not :) The first and last day we there were the days that I actually got to explore on our own. :)
I ate a lot, and the food there is GOOD. Really, it was hard to go to any food place and not have at least pretty good food. Most of the places were very good. :) A few places that we visited that I loved was Bijan’s (Bistro place open till 4am!!), Gino’s (GOOD deep dish pizza!), Nuts on Clark (mmm I crave their cheese popcorn now - thanks for the rec, Char!) and Downtown Dog (mmm Chicago style hot dog!).
Other “touristy” things we did included a visit to the Navy Pier, shop along the Magnificent Mile and taking an architectural boat tour which was fun because it rained the whole time we were on it (and of course, it didn’t rain at ALL before OR after the ride, only when we were on it!!) That was actually pretty relaxing, because I had been frazzled all week (my body is still on Central time!) and the rain cleansed my spirit :)

We encountered a storm on the way there

Justin & Michelle. (who are currently road tripping to their wedding and having a photographic adventure! I can’t wait to see their images from the whole thing :) )

Anne & Bill. (thanks for getting dirty for me :) )

Nic.

At which everyone but a few crazies like us stayed during the downpour. The chairs were all full in the beginning. :)

On the Chicago Tribune building, there are pieces of important landmarks from all over the world embedded in the walls of the building on the outside. It’s pretty awesome.

The only food item I got the chance to take a photo of - a cheese dog.

Farewell Chicago. Till next time. :)

Hey that city looks familiar! We took different boat tours because ours didn’t have a top deck. Yours was cooler. I didn’t know Zach went with you! :)
Awww…I miss home! Great shots of the city! Hopefully next time you’ll venture farther. :) I’m glad you liked the popcorn…yum!!
I LOVE LOVE your first photograph, I just want to jump through my computer screen and into the city (just like Mary Poppins). :)
The first photo is absolutely breathtaking! They’re all amazing!
Hey Susan!
In case u didn’t know, I’m also one of your blogstalkers. =) Really love your work girl. You produce some amazing images.
BTW, what workshop was this in Chicago?
BEAUTIFUL. Love the plane/storm shot. I heart Chitown. We were also so happy to share a little piece of it with Zach and Michelle too! You are so right: the food is delish and the architecture is truly unique. Come visit again soon. :)
Hey Susan! Oh my gosh…I’m even more excited now! Would have been nice if my trip coordinated with a workshop too. Dude…I gotta stop by your blog more often…I like it here :)
Cheers,
cj
I wish I would have known you were going there Sus! My husband is from Chicago and we go every year.
The food is fantastic there! We always hit up the key Chicago spots to eat especially since they don’t have them here.
Potbelly is a fun one for me.. next time, you’ll definitely have to check that out.. chicken salad and the coffee milkshake!
Did you have the toasted ravioli and Gino’s? Yummmy.. I’m salivating.
Did you stay @ the Embassy Suites because that’s where we stayed.. hehehe
Now I’m craving me some Chi-town.
Loved the photos!
